I first came to know about Christianity around my secondary school years when my mother used to fetch me to church on her motorbike for morning services followed by youth fellowships. At that time, I knew nothing about being a Christian, although I called myself one. After graduating Form 5, while waiting for my SPM results, my sister who was in JB brought me to YFC for their Project Serve 2 training. This was also my first time in JB which was a new city to me.
As I spent my first night with the YFC staff in our hostel, my sister who had to work, also spent the night with me, but I knew after that night I would have to look after myself.
On the morning of the next day, I remember everyone sitting in a circle as we introduced ourselves. Two participants who were late that day, also happened to be the only other two joining Project Serve 2 that year! Because it was just the three of us, we became very close to one another, thus beginning our Project Serve. In YFC, I needed to pick up the courage to approach people on the streets and in the malls to hand out flyers, complete survey forms and share the gospel. It was also here that I learnt to read the bible, study it, have quiet time and how to plan an evangelistic event. It was during this time that my faith was strengthened as I got to know the God that I believe in. I’m grateful for this period as I was able to know Him better and thankful for my sister’s guidance and encouragement. As I furthered my studies in KL, a large city with many worldly influences, it was easy to be distracted which was why a strong foundation is so important. If I was unclear about my faith, I might have stopped attending church which might have changed the course of my life today.
Although I’m no longer serving in YFC, I’ve brought the truths and principles that I’ve learnt to my workplace as a testimony to Christ. I’ve also not forgotten our responsibilities as Christians to share the gospel. YFC has an important role to play in today’s society, as youths are bombarded with many distractions especially with the internet: it’s easy to be tricked and led astray. Christian youths need Christ so that they are rooted in the faith and stand firm against all other noises while unbelievers need His salvation. YFC is a medium where youths can hear the gospel. I hope for God’s protection and providence over YFC. I believe that anything that is of this world is ‘in vain’ and a waste of time unless God has blessed it. I truly believe YFC is a ministry blessed by God. Praise and thanks to Him.
