I have known YFC for 19 years. I came to know Christ when I was in Form 4 and participated in a YFC evangelistic event. After I came to know Christ, I faced continuous objections and persecution from my family that had caused me to consider giving up on the faith. Reflecting on the teenage years, if it were not for the persistence of the staff who prayed for me and continuously sent me cards containing encouraging messages from God’s words, I would not have been able to persevere until today. Back then, I would often question God. If God truly loves me, why wouldn’t He open a way out for me? When I graduated from secondary school, God led me to be a full-time staff at YFC. It was very difficult for me to enter society because of my broken family, my parents’ divorce and unpleasant family environment. My father pulled away from me and with my mother’s unstable job, I would stay alone in Johor Bahru. All these placed a huge burden and stress in my heart and finally at 23, I quit my job.

Jesus said, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55: 8-9) Every time I stumble, it allows me to build a closer relationship with God. God continues to train me because I am a child of God. God doesn’t only want me to study His word but for me to also rely on Him. I realise that the suffering I went through was beneficial for me and through that, God taught me to rely on Him and to experience His grace. I thank the Lord for His mercy for everything is led by His miraculous power.

YFC really focuses on sharing the gospel. I remember that after 2 months of making the decision to believe in Christ, which was when I completed my last lesson on the new believer lessons, the staff immediately challenged me to go out and share the gospel to a secondary student. This incident left a deep impression on me. Sharing the gospel is not the responsibility of pastors, theologians or even senior Christians but it is a responsibility of every Christian. The staff at YFC always create new opportunities to share the gospel, whether it is out during street evangelism or at an evangelistic event, they are there to accompany and open up conversations so that Christian students are given opportunities to share the gospel with their non-Christian friends. I hope that more Christian students will use what they have learnt here in YFC: how to plan an evangelistic event, how to study the bible and share the gospel, and continue to apply that into their respective churches.

Life’s greatest blessing is to know Jesus Christ and to receive His salvation. I look forward as the staff of YFC continue to influence young people with their lives, so that many more Christian students can see and understand the Great Commission entrusted by Jesus. In turn, they will share the gospel to their classmates in school and at this young age, obey God and His word.
