Church: Holy Word Church
My name is Xiao Xuan and I am 20 years old. I come from a Christian family. When I was nine, my parents accepted an invitation from a relative to attend church and came to accept God into their lives. At that time, I was just a child attending Sunday school and who was not clear about her own faith. It was like that until I was eleven and I was invited to a YFC evangelistic event. At that event, I heard the gospel, believed, and said the sinner’s prayer. That was my first encounter with YFC.
The mission of YFC is this, “To participate in the body of Christ in responsible evangelism of youth, presenting them with the person, work and teachings of Christ and discipling them into the church.” For me, I experienced the entire process of evangelism in YFC. They started by getting to know me, sharing the gospel with me and then slowly do follow up with me, guiding me to know more about God and growing closer to Him. Later on, I began to participate in the ministry and started to take up more responsibilities and shared the gospel with other youths. I learned how to teach and do follow up with them and even participated in the planning process of evangelistic events. Recently I participated in the Project Serve 2 which occurred during the months of January to March. This experience allowed me to be more rooted and to build upon my faith. It also allowed me to experience the work at YFC for three months. That’s where I discover the challenges of being a full-time staff and yet they are so willing to use their lives to serve this God who loves me.
YFC does not only focus on organising evangelistic events for non-Christians youths to participate and for the gospel to be shared with them. They also organise many activities for Christian students so that they may grow in their faith for example, the camps or the activities that teach us how to study the bible, pray and share the gospel. What YFC has taught me is not something I use in the ministry only but one that I can apply into my life. I use the methods YFC taught me to effectively study the bible and also the use of creative methods and props to share the gospel with my non-Christian friends. I can also bring what I’ve learnt to my youth gathering in church and share it with them so that it may encourage them too.
I am very thankful for the presence of YFC is my life and to keep me on the path of seeking the Lord. YFC has played an important role in my life and they are like my spiritual partner, often guiding me to grow. When I feel lost, the staff will encourage and help me with the words from the bible. When I am facing difficulties, they are there to accompany me, encourage me and walk me through those difficult times. As we get along with each other, that joy of friendship is indispensable.
In the following days, I hope that the staff at YFC will persevere in their ministry. Although they may face challenges and obstacles in this journey, may they find encouragement in the words of the Lord for their lives as well as in the ministry. May they continue to have this passion for this ministry for the youths and not be distracted by the busyness of life. I also hope that they will not only look at these youths as students to be taught but to see them as friends and brothers and sisters. To encourage and support, together as a witness for Christ. All the best, my dear friends!
